Temperature Controllers-Dry Transformers & Motors
Springer Controls offers 4, 8, or 12 channel temperature controllers from Tecsystem with individual temperature selection. Transformers and motors are the most commonly monitored, but our range of temperature controllers can be used in nearly any application where a programmable temperature controller is needed to monitor system temperature and output the temperature information in a variety of ways, from wireless, ethernet, RS232/485, 4-20mA or simple output relays.

Fans
Fan cooling allows transformers to withstand higher power than the nominal rating while still maintaining optimum temperature and safety. Fans are particularly important when integrated into the entire operation. Therefore it is appropriate to consider the environment where the fan will be located and pay attention to factors that can influence the temperature of the transformer and utilize a variety of factors to help control temperature. For example:
- North-South orientation of the largest walls of the transformer room / location to reduce heating from the sun
- Consider humidity inside the room
- Keep the room as dust free as possible
- Keep the area free of corrosive or flammable gasses
In many installations the transformer fan cooling is initiated by the temperature controller, which responds to the temperature of the transformer. The ventilation of the transformer room is often controlled by a thermostat. While these two devices work towards the same goal, they are working independently For optimum air circulation, and ultimately energy savings, the two systems should work together to cool the room/transformer.
To achieve this, Tecsystem offers the VRT series of controllers to control the room ventilation fan, which works in conjunction with their product line of temperature controllers. Tecsystem also offers a range of fans to provide ventilation if it is not already present.

Sensors & Accessories
Springer Controls offers a variety of temperature controller sensors, output converters and accessories to complement our range of temperature controllers.
Resistance temperature detectors (RTD) are typically made by using a fine wire of metal (typically platinum) wrapped around a ceramic core. As temperature rises there is a linear increase in resistance. The resistance is measured and translated to a temperature reading. RTD sensors come in a variety of resistances for measuring different temperature ranges. RTD sensors work very well when measuring temperatures from -58° to 572°F but the sensing range varies by the type of RTD so please verify the RTD chosen matches your required temperature measurement range.
We also have a thermocouple sensor for those that prefer it. A thermocouple has two different metals together in the sensor which make electrical connections at differing temperatures. Due to the thermoelectric effect, the thermocouple will produce a voltage depending on the temperature. This voltage is measured by the temperature controller and translated to a temperature reading.
RTDs are typically more accurate and repeatable than thermocouples, but as they take some time to heat up the response time can be slower.
We also offer quick connect junction boxes to quickly and safely connect the sensors to the temperature controller.
