Shunt trips can be added to a circuit breaker to be able to remotely trip to cut the power. The voltage listed is the input power required to energize the coil and trip the circuit breaker to the off position. These are typically used for emergency applications, as opposed to regular on/off control. UL508 shunt trips should be used with UL508 circuit breakers and UL489 shunt trips should be used with UL489 circuit breakers.
